From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The new Avengers game has finally been revealed by developers who say it is "what's next" for the beloved characters.
It will chart an entirely new story for the full set of Marvel characters as they attempt to save the world once more.
That battle to save the world be fully separate from the events of Marvel's films. And though it includes all of the same characters as in the comics and blockbusters, they will be specifically imagined versions of those characters made for the game.
Developers Square Enix revealed a trailer for the game as well as its release date alongside Marvel at this year's E3 gaming conference.
It will include collaborative four-player multiplayer that allows people to control a variety of different heroes, developers said.
It will be out on 15 May, 2020 and is available for pre-order now. Even after that date, the game will continue to grow with "regular content updates" that will arrive "over multiple years", Square Enix said.
The game was first announced at the beginning of 2017, when it was suggested that it would the beginning of a high-profile collaboration. But not much has been said about it since.
Now pre-orders have also opened on the Square Enix site, offering the game at £59.99 in the UK. Players who take part in that pre-order will get beta access, developers have promised.
"Assemble your team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, embrace your powers, and live your Super Hero dreams," a description on the same page reads, before explaining the plot of the new game.
"Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes."
