Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. While most furniture trends come and go, there are those that remain popular for decades, and the egg chair is no exception.
A style that was first popularised in the 1960s, hanging egg chairs have become a timeless garden staple, with celebrities such as Mrs Hinch and Stacey Solomon leading the way.
As the warmer weather makes its welcome return and groups of up to six people or two households can now meet outside, retailers are experiencing a surge in sales like never before.
The ever-popular Aldi egg chair has become a cult favourite, selling out pretty much instantly whenever it re-launches, while B&M’s version, which is available in select stores only, regularly sees countless bargain hunters queuing in the hopes of bagging one for their garden.
Comfortable, stylish and highly Instagrammable, it’s not hard to see why so many people want to add one to their outdoor space but, with such high demand, it can be tricky to find one that’s in stock. But, that’s where we can help.

Whether you are giving your outdoor space a makeover or you need an extra seat so you can entertain six people alfresco, this hanging chair is perfect for popping in any sunny corner.
Sure to make a statement, the rye garden hanging seat is made from synthetic wicker, which has the look of traditional rattan garden furniture.
While we’ve not reviewed this particular chair, we’re big fans of John Lewis’s furniture on the whole, so can testify to the quality of the retailer’s products. The seat's base is made from a robust steel frame, which looks both durable and sturdy, and can hold up to 17 stone (110kg) in weight. Plus, it also comes with seat and back cushions for extra comfort, which are shower-resistant, so you don’t need to panic should the unpredictable British weather take a turn for the worse.
Ideal for your garden, balcony or even conservatory, this timeless chair creates a cosy nook to kick back and relax in all year round.
Should you miss out on this particular piece, fear not, because Aldi’s bargain egg chair (£149.99, Aldi.com) is set to make a return this weekend.
Arriving back in stock on Sunday 11 April, Aldi’s version won best buy in our review of the best egg chairs and costs just £149.99. Our tester said that while “attractively affordable,” it “doesn’t scrimp on quality, making it a hugely popular patio piece.”
The grey rattan chair is suspended from a powder-coated iron frame via a sturdy chain and also comes with a set of dark grey cushions, including one designed specifically for your head to provide maximum comfort.
It is notorious for selling out almost immediately though, so if you don’t want to miss out make sure to set your alarm for 8am.
Alternatively, there are plenty of other recommendations to suit all tastes in our guide, including the rattan effect hanging egg chair from Argos (£250, Argos.co.uk). Our tester praised its simple design, recommending it for anyone who wants to give their garden a modern touch.
“Its simple black metal frame is unobtrusive (and handily, can be dismantled when not in use) while its puffy cushioning, complete with headrest, is ergonomically designed for comfort,” they said. “We loved the large cut-out armrests – it’s clearly been thoughtfully designed.”
