Feedback: A fraction of the information
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.I found your article about CD-rom encyclopaedias (6 May) interesting as I recently bought Microsoft's Encarta, which has already proved itself a remarkable source of information. (I also intend to procure the new edition of Hutchinson's - British-based, 33,000 articles and, at pounds 50, a very sensible price. It is due for release in June, perhaps you should inform your readers before they rush out to buy Encarta.)
I have not tried to print a graphics file via my word processor, a process which failed you with Groliers, but have discovered a weakness on Encarta: fractions are filed in bitmap form and print out incomprehensively, as I discovered when my 10-year-old asked me about fractions. For example: 'Simple fractions are familiar: a dime is / of a dollar; 6 of a pie plus 4 of a pie is ) of a pie; and so on.'
