Designers aren’t the only ones reimagining the classic style, however. Asos has relaunched its sell-out version from 2020, which graced the backs of editors and influencers alike, and we think it’s even better than its viral predecessor.
Unlike last year’s, which featured a spliced checked pattern across the front as well as the back, the latest design just has the panelling at the back, which we think makes it that little bit more wearable.
Coming in at just £75 – an affordable price considering the fact you can pay well over £100 for high street outwear – and in regular and tall, this is the coat to be seen in for spring and summer.

Asos Design check spliced oversized trench coat in stone
While a trench coat is a great all-rounder, not all are created equal. So we were grateful when Asos launched the new design of its viral jacket from last year.
It’s so good, in fact, that it took the top spot in our guide to the best trench coats thanks to its weighty woven fabric and loose cut, allowing it to fall perfectly for a relaxed, oversized fit. And you’ve got the best of both worlds here as, once tied, it’ll cinch you in at the waist.
Our writer noted that “you’ll be thankful for the deep pockets on your daily stroll”, which will easily hold all your essentials. It’s the checked panel at the back that makes this a true winner though, adding a contemporary touch to the classic design.
It’s currently available in all sizes from UK4 to 18, as well as in the brand’s tall range, which goes up to a size 20. We’re touting this a hero buy for spring and considering the fact it sold out last year, we recommend snapping it up fast.
