Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Having spent a year living in lockdown, it’s safe to say styling our hair has taken a backseat.

From hairdryers to straighteners, hot brushes to curling wands, the brand is a household name loved for its salon-quality tools and highly rated by us here at IndyBest.

Fortunately, in Amazon’s spring sale, where you'll find huge savings across big-name brands like Samsung, Morphy Richards and L’Oréal, the haircare brand has slashed its prices too.

Ghd platinum+ styler black professional smart hair straighteners: Was £189, now £149.99, Amazon.co.uk

(ghd)

You can’t talk about ghd without mentioning its most popular tool, the straightener. While its original style is a firm favourite, in 2018 it launched its platinum styler that promises 70 per cent less damage.

In our review where we put them head to head against the Dyson corrale, we were left impressed.

“The plates are ceramic and rounded in a barrel style at the edges, which helps give your hair a smooth, just-blow-dried finish,” said our reviewer, adding, “there’s definitely a noticeable difference in shine.”

Ghd glide hot brush: Was £139, now £112.99, Amazon.co.uk

Hot brushes have recently become popular for their ability to give you a salon-worthy experience from the comfort of your home, as they blow-dry hair and style it at the same time, whether you love bouncy curls or oodles of volume.

In our guide to the best hot brushes for styling, volumising and straightening hair, our tester loved using this sleek style with its non-heated handle to create a glossy finish and perfectly straight hair.

“The grip was perfect and the product didn’t slip in our hands, while the bristles combed through our strands with ease, even when we’d woken up with a slightly tangled mop. The product also has a smart sleep mode – meaning if you forget to turn it off, it does so automatically after an hour,” they said, sharing that it made frizz vanish in minutes too.

If you’re a fan of freshly tonged hair for beachy waves or tight curls, we loved the ghd curve creative curl wand in our guide to the best hair curlers for salon-worthy hair at home.

“Ranging from 23mm to 28mm along the wand, you can easily control the size of your curl – stick to the very top for tighter ringlets but move further down for more volume,” our reviewer recommended.

Speedy to heat up to 185C, the tip that stays cool, allowing you to hold it in place as you style. It also has a 30-minute timer, so you don't need to worry about remembering to switch it off.

Ghd rise professional hot brush: Was £169, now £142.99, Amazon.co.uk

The second hot brush in ghd’s catalogue is a worthy contender to the original, except it comes with the bold claim that it will deliver double the amount of volume from root to tip. To get the most out of it, simply brush the barrel through the hair in the direction you want a slight curl to sit.

In our review of the tool, our tester revealed that it uses an “infinity” sensor and predictive technology that adapts the temperature according to your hair type and thickness to minimise damage.

“After taking just 25 seconds to heat up (it will ding to let you know it’s done), it’s quick to transform even the rattiest, tangled bed head into waves, bouncy curls, or salon-worthy root volume,” they said, before adding, “our hair stayed wavy and bouncy late into the evening – something we thought only existed in our wildest beauty dreams. We put this down to the nylon bristles, which are short and flexible enough to lift from the root.”

Ghd helios hair dryer in stylish white: Was £169, now £135, Amazon.co.uk

(ghd)

The brand’s hairdryers are also industry leaders when it comes to drying hair while reducing frizz and keeping hair looking and feeling healthy.

Delivering a powerful yet even airflow, we loved the fast-drying speed of the helios device in our review. “With two different heat settings, you can avoid unnecessary heat damage from using higher temperatures than needed. While it’s capable of reaching a maximum temperature of 110C, most hair types should do fine with just the lower setting,” our tester said, with it taking just a few minutes to dry mid-length styles, with a noticeable difference to shine.

Powerful but quiet, it’s also surprisingly lightweight, weighing just 780g. It has a 3m long cable to help avoid any tangling during use.

They have also been designed to heat up to 185C – a temperature that the brand claims minimises damage and breakage.

According to our reviewer: “It’s small but mighty and it doesn’t compromise on safety – it still uses the brand’s trademark safeguard technology, which switches off the hairdryer if it comes too close to your hair, so as to prevent overheating”

Weighing just 422g, it’s perfect for travelling or if you’re limited on space.
