With the arrival of a new season, are you preparing to give your home a spring clean? If so, it might be time to give your vacuum cleaner an update.

While not the most exciting purchase, if you find a good one, it’ll keep your humble abode free from dust, dirt and pet hair, and can last a very long time.

With an ever-expanding number of models available, it can be difficult to decide which is the right one for you – but our buying guide can help if you’re unsure where to begin. It unpicks everything from the different types of vacuum cleaners to whether you should opt for a cordless or corded machine.

You may have noticed that many of the top models don’t come cheap, with our favourite upright model from Shark costing £299.99.

Luckily though, we’re always on the lookout for a bargain (including on mattresses, fridge freezers, laptops and gaming consoles) and Amazon’s spring sale is where it’s at. Running from 23 to 31 March, the retailer is slashing the price of many big-ticket items, including Samsung’s high-end Galaxy buds+, which are now 50 per cent off.

The online giant has also reduced the price of one of its best-selling cleaners from the brand Mrs Hinch loves – Shark. The cleaning influencer, whose real name is Sophie Hinchcliffe, has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to keeping your home in pristine condition, so if she’s touting a product or a brand, we listen.

Shark is also one of our favourite home appliance brands, with its products consistently landing spots in our reviews – namely of the pet, bagless, cordless and upright vacuum cleaners. So, much like the queen of clean, we can vouch for their reliability and performance.

With a whopping saving of £100, the Shark upright vacuum cleaner is a no-brainer. With its lift-away technology, it can efficiently clean stairs and soft-furnishing and it also claims to capture 99.9 per cent of dust and allergens. Read on for everything you need to know about the appliance, and the impressive deal.

Our IndyBest team hand-picks every deal we feature. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

Shark upright vacuum cleaner NV602UK lift-away: Was £249.99, now £149.99, Amazon.co.uk

(Amazon)

When Mrs Hinch recommends a cleaning brand, it’s good practice to listen up. As a leading company when it comes to household appliances, if you’re looking to upgrade your vacuum cleaner, this is the one to go for. And thanks to Amazon’s unmissable spring sale, there’s a 40 per cent saving on this machine, meaning you’ll be getting a whopping £100 off.

While we’re yet to review this exact model, a similar one – the Shark NZ801UKT (£265.03, Amazon.co.uk) – was highly commended in our round-up of the best vacuum cleaners for pet hair, with our writer praising it for being a “versatile machine” that “worked well”.

A key similarity between the two devices is that they both feature the lift away technology, which allows the cylinder to disconnect from the body of the vacuum, which our writer noted as being beneficial for “allowing more flexibility” when it comes to cleaning hard to reach spots.

Owing to the popularity of this vacuum, we predict it’ll sell-out fast. Plus, Amazon’s spring sale is on for a limited time online (running until 31 March).
