Vermin: Mighty mice are having their moment in the sun

"The mice at this station have been attacking customers," reads a sign at the entrance to Farringdon Tube station in London. "Please place the bottom of your trousers into your socks to avoid being a victim of the Farringdon mice."

You don't, however, have to be in this trendy corner of east London to know that mice are having a moment.

The Government is considering plans to close the Houses of Parliament – as reported by Trending yesterday – to fix, among other things, the mouse problem.

Up the road, Larry the Downing Street Cat – brought in to rid No 10 of rodents – caught his first prey yesterday morning.

And last week the Edinburgh Evening News reported that Jenners, the city's oldest department store, has been suffering from an infestation. "I don't know what's worse – the mice or the female staff screaming every time they run past," grumped one employee.

So when the Conservative MP Tim Yeo asked David Cameron "whether he is man or mouse", it was hard to know which is the more powerful these days.
