Five pilot whales that were stranded on a beach in Florida at the weekend are showing signs of recovery. Another 17 died or had to be put down.
Two male and three female juveniles were being treated yesterday at Florida Atlantic University. Experts said the whales were suffering stress and had infections, but were swimming on their own.
It was unclear why the whales became stranded in St Lucie County. The experts hope to continue the whales' rehabilitation at SeaWorld Orlando. AP
