Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Scotland's most famous expatriate, Sir Sean Connery, is backing a campaign against plans for a wind farm at Inverliever Forest, at Loch Avich, 20 miles south of Oban, Argyll.

The community around is fighting what it calls a "David and Goliath" battle against Scottish Power's plans to build 22 turbines, each 300ft high, claiming they will destroy wildlife in a fragile area.

Christine Metcalfe, a protest leader, left information at the former Bond star's Bahamas home when the Metcalfes celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on the island. "He called me twice after I left the information pack and said he gave his permission to use his name in full support of everything we were doing," Mrs Metcalfe said. A spokesman for Scottish Power said there had been thorough consultation with local people and the proposed number of turbines had been halved.

The plan will be considered by Argyll and Bute District Council next year.
