Ianthe Butt is an award-winning freelance journalist, editorial consultant and regular contributor to The Independent Travel. As well as covering the UK’s most interesting new places to stay in a regular Hot Hotels column, her specialisms include travel trends, innovation, design, sustainability and nature. A firm believer that travel can be a force for good, and that on-the-doorstep travels can be as powerful and perspective-broadening as epic overseas adventures, she is fascinated by stories that venture underwater, off-grid or reveal the dynamic individuals who inspire us to preserve the planet. This has seen her freedive with the Ama in Japan, interview activist chefs in Copenhagen and search for prehistoric creatures on the Dorset coastline.
