From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Having gone unsought for 13 years, the truth is apparently still out there, with The X-Files set to return in January for a six-episode mini-series on FOX.
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson and are both picking back up their respective roles of Mulder and Scully, and last night the first trailer dropped in between the TV broadcast of Gotham and Minority Report.
“They police us and spy on us…tell us that makes us safer…we’ve never been in more danger,” warns Mulder, suggesting that the mass surveillance of society might be tied into the new series’ plot.
There are a few nods to the old seasons in there for fans, including Mulder kicking his “I Want to Believe” poster from his office and a close-up of a hand clutching a cigarette - certainly confirmation of the return of The Smoking Man.
The mini-series follows 2008’s film spin-off The X Files: I Want to Believe, and arrives on 24 January 2016.
