Jilly Cooper's Riders was the trash triumph of the last bank holiday. Having pulled 10.99 million (viewers, that is) on the Sunday night, it came to a climax with an extra 110,000 the next day. The following Sunday, Harnessing Peacocks, featuring Serena Scott Thomas, that red hat and little else (also on ITV), went one better, with 11.96 million. On BBC1 the much hyped Sylvania Waters has rather disappointed. Its first episode managed 7.26 million, the second 6.16 million, the third a still modest 6.36 million. Some shows, however, you can rely on. Clive Anderson Talks Back returned on Channel 4 and, as ever, rated a little over 3.35 million.
