Are you ready for series 2 of The Sinner on Netflix?
There's a brand new mystery as the ultra-unnerving thriller returns
When it first arrived on Netflix in 2017, The Sinner quickly earned a reputation for being one of the streaming service's most gripping psychological thrillers, thanks in no small part to its shockingly gruesome series opener. A standout performance from Jessica Biel as troubled (to put it mildly) mother Cora gained it a legion of fans, and a second series has been hotly awaited ever since.
But will the new episodes capture viewers' imaginations quite like before? Here's what you need to know.
Jessica Biel is still involved but in a different way
Biel's Emmy-nominated performance was one of series one's biggest draws, so fans were understandably disappointed when it was revealed earlier this year that she wouldn't be starring in series two. While she won't be appearing on screen for now, Biel will be working as an executive producer on the second instalment. And speaking in an interview with Variety, the star didn't rule out a return to the show, explaining: "We did talk a lot about does Cora come back for season two... but we just couldn't do it this particular season." Fingers crossed she'll return to the cast next time around.
We’ll be delving way deeper into Ambrose’s background
Luckily we aren't losing all of series one's favourite characters. Detective Ambrose (Bill Pullman) will once again be on hand to unravel the mystery at the heart of the show. This time events take him back to his hometown in rural New York to assist the daughter of an old friend (played by Natalie Paul) in cracking a seemingly impossible case.
It's still going to be edge-of-your-seat viewing
Season one looked at what might motivate an apparently normal person to kill. New episodes will be taking this theme and giving it an extra sinister twist. While previously it was a young mother driven to senseless violence, this time it's the murder of two parents seemingly at the hand of their 11-year-old son (played by Elisha Henig). Except in the world of The Sinner, things are always more complicated than they first appear.
You can still watch series one
If you still aren't up to date with the first run, then really where have you been? But also, don't fear as all episodes are waiting on Netflix for you to stream.
The Sinner series two arrives on Netflix on November 9.
