Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Penn Badgley is front and centre in the one-minute clip, which is narrated by his character Joe Goldberg.
Joe, we learn, is now living in Los Angeles, where he has apparently fled after (spoiler alert) killing his girlfriend Beck in the season one finale.
True to form, Joe attempts to rationalise his abusive tendencies under the guise of social commentary.
“You know, love has taken me to pretty dark places. But Los Angeles has got to be as dark as it gets,” he narrates.
Joe then shifts to the topic of social media, adding: “Your followers see an image and imagine you’re on top of the world.
“What they don’t see is the effort you’re putting into this fantasy. You’re hiding behind this facade, but why?”
We then learn that Joe – who says that in LA, “everyone is pretending to be somebody they’re not” – is now living under the name Will, presumably to escape his murderous dealings from season one.
YOU, based on the novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, is returning to Netflix on 26 December.
