From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Both Lola and eight-piece boyband Stereo Kicks received the lowest number of votes, leaving them to do vocal battle in the sing-off.
Lola, 20, took on Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" while Stereo Kicks, compiled by the judges from solo entrants, performed P!nk's "F**kin' Perfect".
Cheryl and Louis both saved their own acts, Lola and Stereo Kicks respectively. Mel B sent home Lola after an "annoyingly" good performance from the group, while Simon said goodbye to Stereo Kicks and took the final decision to deadlock. The public opted to end Lola's X Factor dream.
Earlier in the show, guest star John Legend played the beginning of "Ordinary People" before breaking into his recent chart hit "All Of Me", while Cheryl took to the stage to perform her new single "I Don't Care".
Jack Walton left the show last night after a spooky Halloween twist saw the act with the fewest public votes evicted, without a last chance in the sing-off.
The Yorkshire 18-year-old's rendition of "Bleeding Love" fell flat with viewers and received mixed reactions from the judges, renamed Lucifer Walsh, Cheryl Fangnandez-Versini, Slimon Cowell and Hell B.
Louis decided Jack was a "small room performer", Cheryl "felt nervous and uncomfortable" and Simon criticised the bizarre moment when a vampire bite him on the neck.
"It's all gone too crazy," he judged. "I don't think this is you. I think you have compromised yourself."
Simon had dropped the 'Fright Night' bombshell on contestants in an ominous pre-show meeting. “There are no second chances," he warned. "We decided to do this because I think you all need a bit of a wake up call. You put out a rubbish record it doesn’t chart. If you do a rubbish performance on the night, you’re out."
