From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The actor assumed the role for the episode's cold open from the White House which he joked is actually a replica he built in his Texas basement.
“I know what you’re thinking: what the heck is the handsome devil doing back in the Oval Office?" he said. "The truth is this is just a set. I had it built in my basement in Texas - so I could pretend to still be president sometimes."
Ferrell's Bush then delivered a message to America in which he wasted no time in mentioning Donald Trump.
“According to a new poll, my approval is at an all-time high,” he said, adding: “[I'm] suddenly popular AF"
Nicknaming the current president “Donny Q," Ferrell's character quipped: "Trump came in and suddenly I’m looking pretty sweet by comparison. At this rate I might even end up on Mount Rushmore, right next to Washington, Lincoln - and I want to say Kensington.”
Ferrell’s Bush went on to reassure those yearning for a time pre-Trump in his own unique way by saying: “I just wanted to remind you guys I was really bad - like historically not good. "Don’t forget: We’re still in two different wars that I started. What has two thumbs and created Isis? This guy.”
He did draw some comparisons between himself and the current president, however.
“We have a lot in common: We’re both the exact same age, even though I was president like 40 years ago. We both won the election despite losing the popular vote. Though back in my day we didn’t let Russians rig our elections - we used the Supreme Court like Americans."
Ferrell was a regular SNL cast member from 1995 to 2002 and has hosted the show a total of three times.
