The Walking Dead has finally revealed how Michonne and Daryl received the mysterious “X” scars on their backs.
In episode 14 of season nine, titled “Scars”, a flashback saw a pregnant Michonne reunite with her old school friend Jocelyn, only to face a terrible betrayal when said friend kidnaps Judith from Alexandria.
Michonne is joined by Daryl on a hunt to retrieve the girl, but the pair are attacked by Jocleyn’s group of adopted children, trained by her to be ruthless in their actions.
After the two are captured and strung up, one of the children brands them both with an “X” on their lowers backs.
Although Michonne and Daryl eventually escape, it’s only after Michonne is forced to kill the entire group of children, as their attacks cannot be slowed or stopped.
The Walking Dead season 9 continues in the US every Sunday with the UK premiere arriving the following evening on FOX.
