From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The latest episode of The Walking Dead season 8 throws the future of one key character into question in the wake of shifting allegiance.

By the end of season 6, Dwight (Austin Amelio) - the former right-hand man of Saviours leader Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) - had jumped sides after fleeing the Sanctuary to provide assistance to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and company.

Since then, he's proved himself a worthy ally and episode 11 - titled 'Dead Or Alive Or' - shows Dwight staring down an uncertain future: Tara (Alanna Masterson) wants revenge for the death of Denise while Negan - with whom Dwight finds himself reunited in the episode's closing moments - will no doubt deploy some distressing wrath should he learn of his defection.

The Independent and other media outlets spoke with several Walking Dead cast members including Amelio himself who warned viewers they were right to be worried about Dwight.

“Yeah, I think he's worried. It's interesting because he's totally on a mission for revenge and I think he had some morals in the beginning, then he got used to the world and now he has some morals about getting used to the world. I think at this point now with what he's doing, he's like 'Okay, I could die at any second.'

"I think he just wants to be rid of Negan and do some good in the world. That's what he's focusing on right now. I think they're all hell-bent on trying to get some sort of peace.”
