US series The Walking Dead's seventh season is edging ever closer and naturally details are being divulged slowly.

The latest news regards two brand new characters who have interestingly never appeared in the graphic novels the series is based on.

The first character, named Naomi, is described as "grandmotherly" and - having lost many of the people she loved - is "willing to do whatever it takes."

Character number two is called Jennie, a "sunny-side-up kinda teenager" who possesses similarities to former Walking Dead character Beth Greene (Emily Kinney).

While TVLine reports that they will appear in season seven's sixth episode, network AMC is still yet to confirm the addition of these characters.

Speculation over who new antagonist Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed in season six's closing moments has reached overdrive with the producers opting to shoot 11 different outcomes in an attempt to preserve the surprise.

The Walking Dead returns to FOX this October.
