From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The actor announced the reunion, which will take place on 4 October at 6pm, from her official Twitter account.
It will feature Veep stars including Louis-Dreyfus, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Sam Richardson, Tim Simons, Tony Hale, Clea Duvall and Matt Walsh, along with some surprise guests.
The event will be moderated by David Mandel, an executive producer on the show.
“All roads to the White House go through the great state of Wisconsin. Trump can’t win re-election if he doesn’t win Wisconsin,” Louis-Dreyfus said in a video.
“So, the democratic party of Wisconsin has built an unprecedented voter mobilization operation, and they need resources in these final days to deliver Wisconsin to vice president Joe Biden and Senator Harris.”
Wisconsin will be a crucial swing state in this year’s election. As well as the Veep reunion, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin recently hosted a table read of The Princess Bride, which raised more than $4m (£3.14m) in donations.
“The future of democracy is on the line, people,” Louis-Dreyfus said. “Come and join us and be part of winning Wisconsin, taking down Trump and electing Joe Biden.”
