Ever-popular TV hosts Ant and Dec were back on form at the TV Choice Awards on Monday night, taking home three gongs despite not being there to accept them.

The duo, known for sweeping the board at television awards ceremonies, triumphed in the Best Entertainment Show, Best Reality Show and Best Talent Show category with Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Britain's Got Talent respectively.

ITV crime drama Broadchurch won Best Drama at the event at Park Lane's London Hilton hotel, with lead star David Tennant winning Best Actor for the second year.

Sheridan Smith picked up Best Actress for her acclaimed performance as Cilla Black in Cilla, and paid tribute to the late singer and entertainer who died last month aged 72.

"Obviously, it's tinged with sadness," she said on stage. "It's an absolute honour and privilege to play such an amazing lady. Thank you Cilla."

BBC's period dramas proved a hit with audiences with Poldark, starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson, chosen as Best New Drama and Call The Midwife winning Best Family Drama.
