From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Despite playing villainous characters such as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, both Kray twins in Legend, and John Fitzgerald in The Revenant, Tom Hardy has proven himself an excellent bedtime story teller.
For his second appearance on CBeebies Bedtime Stories, Hardy read The Cloudspotter by Tom McLaughlin, alongside his dog, Woody.
“Hi, I’m Tom. I’m just doing some cloud-spotting,” the critically acclaimed actor began. “If you look very carefully, you can see lot’s of clouds in the sky.”
Of course, this was no regular bedtime story, as the BBC decided to air the clip on Valentines Day. As expected, Twitter went into meltdown, many social media users joking about the episode being ‘one for mothers’ rather than children.
“Kids in bed but kept CBeebies on to listen to Tom Hardy bedtime story on cloud spotting,” wrote one Tweeter. “Happy valentines to me!”
Hardy reading the Cloudspotter is currently available on BBC iPlayer.
Last New Year's Eve, Hardy appeared on CBeebies reading You Must Bring a Hat, by Simon Philip and Kate Hindley, having a similar impact on viewers.
Having only appeared in Peaky Blinders and The Revenant in 2016, Hardy had a relatively quiet year. However, already in 2017, the actor has appeared in Taboo - which he co-created with his father and Steven Knight - and will star in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.
