Eamonn Holmes makes dig at This Morning for ‘getting rid of us’ after being replaced on Friday timeslot
Holmes and co-host Ruth Langsford will not return to the Friday timeslot in 2021
Eamonn Holmes has made a dig at This Morning’s recent decision to remove him and Ruth Langsford from their regular Friday timeslot.
The husband-and-wife presenting duo have hosted the ITV chat show every Friday since 2006, but will not be returning in the new year.
On this morning’s episode (18 December), Holmes noted that he had seen a man selling Christmas trees at half their normal price.
“Well, they’re struggling to get rid of them, I suppose,” said Langsford. “Aren’t they?”
“I would say so darling, I’d say that’s the obvious conclusion,” replied Holmes, adding: “Which is why they’re getting rid of us on a Friday now after all this sort of chat.”
Holmes and Langsford will be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in the new year, though the pair will return to host the series during school holidays.
After news of the change-up broke, Holmes and Langsford were said to be “disappointed” by the decision.
Fellow This Morning host Rylan Clark-Neal voiced his support for the outgoing couple, telling The Daily Star: “Ruth and Eamonn are my telly mum and dad, they have been since day one. They have been my biggest supporters out of the entire industry.
“They are still doing holidays and stuff on This Morning so it is nice we will still see them on there, but if it frees up their time to do other stuff then I really hope so, as they are really lovely people.”
