The Walking Dead Season 9: Episode 9's opening scene

Yet another star of The Walking Dead may be leaving the show later this season.

According to a new report, season nine is looking like it will be the deadliest in years with King Ezekiel set to meet his maker in forthcoming episodes.

We Got This Covered reports that Khary Payton – who joined the show in season seven – will leave the show in either season nine or the recently confirmed tenth.

His potential exit is said to be the decision of the writers and not Payton who has been vocal about wanting to remain on the show.

The news comes a week after the AMC zombie drama’s mid-season premiere teased the death of another long-standing character with the arrival of Whisperers leader, Alpha (Samantha Morton).

The Walking Dead is in the process of big change following the departure of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan. The former will return in a trilogy of films dedicated to his character Rick Grimes while Cohan’s chaacter Maggie is expected to come back in a similar way at an unknown stage in the future.

Last week, it was confirmed that Black Panther star Danai Gurira, who has played Michonne since season three, will depart the series in season 10.

The Walking Dead season 9 continues in the US every Sunday with the UK premiere arriving the following evening on FOX. You can find the biggest talking points from the show's latest episode, "Omega", here.
