For those hoping that the shock reveal at the end of the most recent episode of The Walking Dead wasn't real, a brand new trailer has come along to wipe away any doubt.
Carl Grimes is going to die. It was discovered that the character, who has been played on the series by Chandler Riggs since its first season, suffered a walker bite episodes before (re-watch that moment here) and will depart in the very next episode which will air in February.
In fact, a scene from the first look at episode 9 seems to show Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) standing over his grave.
Riggs himself confirmed the news to devastated fans in a post-episode interview adding that he “never expected” to be killed off.
Elsewhere in the trailer, it's business as usual for Negan and The Saviours who continue in their mission to kill Rick and friends.
Following the midseason finale's shock twist, Riggs' father - in now-deleted Facebook posts - hit out at showrunner Scott Gimple claiming that the show “fired” his son after promising his character would be kept alive for at least three more seasons.
The Walking Dead season eight returns in the US on AMC February 2018 with the UK premiere arriving on FOX. It will also return on NOWTV
