From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The eighth midseason finale of The Walking Dead is almost here and - going by the trailer as well as our brand new interview with one of the show's cast members - it looks as if fans need to prepare for yet another devastating death.
After the climactic events of the show's most recent episode which saw Daryl, Tara and Morgan inadvertently scupper Rick's plans to bring the war to Negan alongside his new allies, The Scavengers - with the walkers formerly imprisoning The Saviours inside the Sanctuary, it seems that Negan is about to make good on his promise to bring hell to our heroes in what looks to be a tense night-time episode that plays out in real-time.
Unfortunately, this move seems to put those currently at the Alexandria Safe-Zone - namely Michonne and Carl - in imminent danger perhaps giving the latter an opportunity to step up as the leader many are assuming he'll become following the Old Man Rick flashforwards.
“All we've got to do is survive the night,” Carl can be seen saying, something another sector of fans are convinced spells trouble for the eyepatch-wearing teen. Could the premiere episode's flashforwards be revealed to be a mere dream sequence? Very possibly.
The turn of events could also see the disturbing theory surrounding baby Judith realised. Following the introduction of a new baby character in an earlier episode - the one that Rick found at the sanctuary - a theory circulated that this was, in fact, the six-year-old girl featured in Rick's flashforward which perhaps indicates the devastating death of his daughter in the midseason finale.
Other characters who seem to be in danger include Rosita (Christian Serratos), Aaron (Ross Marquand) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon) who will all have their own brush with The Saviours.
One thing's for certain - this being a midseason finale, at least one character won't be making it out alive. Just who that will be will remain a mystery for one week longer.
We spoke with Enid star Katelyn Nacon who teased the “horrific” episodes to come and offered final word on the long-standing theory that her character is still a member of the faded faction known as The Wolves.
The Walking Dead season eight airs every Sunday in the US on AMC with the UK premiere arriving the following evening on FOX. It will also be available on NOWTV
