From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A new trailer for The Walking Dead season 7 has been released and, considering it clocks in at a brief 30 seconds, we went ahead and dissected each frame to see if we could unearth any fresh hints.

Unsurprisingly, it's Negan heavy (Negan being the new antagonist dramatically introduced in season 6's closing moments by bludgeoning one of the main characters to death with a baseball bat he refers to as Lucille. The identity of said character will remain a secret until the opening moments of season 7, according to executive producer Greg Nicotero).

While the clip doesn't reveal who Negan kills, it may go some way to show who the Saviours' leader doesn't kill with potential appearances from characters in the running.

A war between The Saviours and The Kingdom - the faction Morgan (Lennie James) and Carol (Melissa McBride) encounter in the season 6 finale - is teased.

"Things have changed," Negan can be heard saying in the new trailer. "Whatever you had going for you? That's over. Thing is - I am everywhere."

How are those excitement levels doing? You can find out who we believe to be Negan's unlucky victim here.

We recently spoke to cast member Michael Cudlitz (Abraham Ford) and executive producer Gale Ann Hurd who stated she would "never say never" to future spin-offs. Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing its second season.

The Walking Dead returns in the US on 23 October with a UK airdate following on FOX the very next day. Season 6 will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 26 September.
