From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Just one week after dropping the first action-packed trailer, AMC has released a look at Gamma – one of Alpha’s accomplices – played by Thora Birch.
Not much is officially known about the direction the tenth season will go in, but it’s expected that it’ll feature the biggest battle yet as Alpha’s Whisperers face off with our group of heroes that – wait for it – now includes former villain, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
You can see the first images of Birch’s new role below.
Birch’s past credits include psychological thriller The Hole and Ghost World, which she starred in alongside Scarlett Johansson.
Last week, it was announced that Danai Gurira – most recently seen as Okoye in Avengers: Endgame – will be leaving the show this season.
“I can confirm that this is the last season I will be on this amazing TV show as Michonne,” she said, receiving a standing ovation.
She continued: “I would just like to say that this has been one of the purest joys of my life to play this role and to be amongst these people and those who are not here right now and amongst all of you. I’m very thankful for the experience I’ve had in ways I can’t state right now. My heart does not leave in any way, shape or form. The connection between us never ends.”
This will be the first full season without former lead star Andrew Lincoln who will return as Rick Grimes in a brand new Walking Dead film to be released in the cinema.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC in the US on 6 October and will air the following evening in the UK on FOX and NOW TV.
