The latest episode ofThe Walking Dead referred to a character you might have long forgotten.

In the show’s return – in what is officially being referred to as season 10c – the newly-returned Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) have a conversation where the latter asks what happened to Georgie.

For those who don’t remember, Georgie first appeared in a season eight episode titled “The Key”. She was discovered by Maggie, Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Enid (Katelyn Nacon) while doing a search around the perimeter of the Hilltop.

When we first see Georgie, who is played in the series by24 and House of Cards star Jayne Atkinson, she is stood by a parked van on the open road.

Her image stands out for the fact that she appears suited and well-kept – a far cry from the other characters’ appearances – and she tells Maggie she wants to trade knowledge. It is suggested that she comes from a community comprised of decent people who want to build a future in the apocalypse.

In Georgie’s own words to Maggie: “I’ll be back. Maybe not for a while, but I will. And by then I expect great things.”

One season later, Maggie leaves to go and help Georgie do just this. While we don’t see her leave, it happens in the time jump that occurs after Rick is flown away in a helicopter after the bridge explosion – and Georgie’s name has been mentioned a few times since.

In this episode, Daryl asks what happened to Georgie, and Maggie explains that her status is currently unknown. After their previous location was raided by a villainous clan known as the reapers, she was separated from Georgie. Whether she will return remains to be seen.

At the time of her first appearance, many –including Atkinson – believed the character’s inspiration to be Pamela Milton, the leader of a settlement known as The Commonwealth.

Based in Ohio, the Commonwealth is home to over 50,000 people – a full-sized community with jobs, theatre and military force.

These are the people Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) and Princess (Paolo Lazaro) come across in the closing moments of the most recent Walking Dead episode to have aired before this new one. Suffice to say, Georgie is not Pamela.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays in the US on AMC and is available to watch in the UK the following evening on FOX and NOW TV at 9pm
