According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cartoonist is confirmed to be developing a new animated series for Netflix, the streaming service having announced earlier this year it is attempting to produce more original content.
Few details are known about the project but it is thought Netflix want to order two seasons, both of which would consist of ten episodes. Both Netflix and Matt Groening’s camp have yet to comment.
Since the final episode of Futurama aired in September 2013, having been cancelled and picked up again on numerous occasions, Groening has remained relatively inactive, making rare cameo appearances on shows such as Portlandia.
Of course, The Simpsons has continued throughout, and is currently the longest running US primetime television series in history.
However, the series looks set to end sometime in the near future, with reports previously hinting it will end after season 30.
