From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Simpsons has revealed the couch gag for its Christmas special and it does not disappoint.

In 'The Couch Gag Before Christmas', the entire opening title sequence has been given a festive makeover, with as many Christmas references thrown in as possible.

Maggie has pointy elf ears, Bart surfs down the street on a snowboard and Homer pulls a candy cane that got stuck in his clothes at work from out of his shirt. Lisa still plays the saxophone, but it’s a version of Jingle Bells she free-styles over before getting covered in snow.

The animation then cuts to a message reading: “Obligatory Frozen reference”, before cutting to a snow couch, where Lisa, appearing as Frozen’s Elsa, is sitting. Bart hits her with a snowball and she immediately creates a giant ice palace, with Bart stuck at the top. Homer appears as Olaf, and bites his own nose, disappointed to discover it is simply a carrot.
