The Shining spin off TV series coming to HBO Max
‘Overlook’ is reported to be a 10-part series
Star Wars director JJ Abrams is set to produce a TV series set in the world of The Shining.
Named Overlook after The Shining‘s fictional Overlook Hotel, the horror series will feature famous characters from Stephen King’s 1977 novel and subsequent 1980 film adaptation.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the show will “explore the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction” over 10 episodes and is rumoured to be written by Castle Rock’s Dustin Thomason and Scott Brown
Overlook will be produced by Abrams’ production company Bad Robot for new streaming service HBO Max, which is set to launch in the US in May.
Abrams will also work on two other series for the platform, showing a darker side to the DC universe in Justice League Dark while also co-writing with The Walking Dead’s LaToya Morgan on Duster.
HBO Max was originally meant to be launching with the forthcoming Friends reunion special, but due to coronavirus, had to be pushed back, making it unclear when the episode will air on the platform.
