Having debuted in the second series of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher is set to appear in his own Netflix series.

Marvel confirmed they have indeed ordered a solo series for the machine gun-wielding anti-hero, while Netflix US posted a creepy trailer featuring The Punisher saying “One batch, two batch, Penny and Dime” - a phrase repeated by the anti-hero throughout the series.

Rumours of a Punisher solo-series have been swelling for some time, yet no substantial sources have confirmed the superhero studio had ordered the series.

According to reports, writer and producer Steven Lightfoot (Hannibal) will act as showrunner while Bernthal will reprise his role from Daredevil.

There’s currently no word on when the series will hit the streaming service, but it will likely come after The Defenders - the Avengers-style team-up in which Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist work together to fight crime.

**Spoilers for Daredevil season two** In the last episode, The Punisher finds a CD with the word Micro on it - a comic book character who was once friends with Frank Castle but turned villain. The character - who was also briefly mentioned in ABC’s Agents of Shield - would likely be the show’s villain.

Meanwhile, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr has said he would be interested in doing Iron Man 4, having previously denied he would like to appear as the hero in a solo film again.
