From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Over the years, The Moomins have managed to remain some of Britain’s most-loved cartoon characters, featuring in numerous TV series and films.

Come 2019, the white blobs will return for another full-length series, with some very esteemed actors voicing certain characters.

So far, the likes of Kate Winslet, Taron Egerton, and Richard Ayoade have been announced, along with Rosamund Pike, Matt Berry, and Warwick Davis.

Gone Girl and Die Another Day’s Pike will voice the motherly Moominmamma, comic Berry bringing Moominpappa to life.

Kingsman’s Egerton voices Moomintroll, while Winslet will voice Mrs Fillyjonk, Richard Ayoade taking on The Ghost, and Warwick Davis doing Sniff.

Rounding off the so-far announced cast list are Akiya Henry and Will Self as Snorkmaiden and The Muskrat, respectively. The upcoming adaptation will feature a blend of 2D and 3D animating techniques.

Sophia Jansson, the niece of The Moomins' creator Tove Jansson, said: “Tove gave the inhabitants of Moominvalley the values of tolerance, love, respect, friendship and bravery - which are needed in today's world more than ever.

Marika Marakroff, the creative director of Gutsy Animation, the Finnish company behind the upcoming series, said: "We're very excited to have a wonderful cast and team who share these values bringing Moomins to life in a new way for fans young and old.”

The Moomins most recently appeared in the 2014 film Moomins on the Riviera, featuring voices from Russell Tovey, Nathaniel Parker and Tracy Ann Oberman.
