From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Disney is fond of signing up trending celebrities to the voice casts of its animated films, so Saturday Night Live decided to imagine what some of the other auditions might have looked like at the weekend.

In a featurette-esque 'Lion King screen tests' sketch, the show's cast took on a variety of actors and musicians, who all brought their idiosyncrasies to the Pride Lands of Africa.

Nick Offerman gave a very dry and stoic hyena, Kit Harington just couldn't wait to be king (in the North), James Corden was nauseatingly cheery and Oprah interviewed Simba.

The funniest 'auditions' came with the rappers, though, the betrothed Cardi B and Offset phoning it in, LL Cool J gesticulating like only he can and Eminem pacing the set like it was a rap battle.

The actual cast for Jon Favreau's 2019 CGI remake is pretty stellar, featuring Beyoncé, Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Eric Andre and Keegan-Michael Key.
