The Chase reveals new Chaser

The Chase fans couldn’t believe their eyes when a new Chaser was revealed on the show.

ITV’s quiz series unveiled a former contestant as its latest professional, with host Bradley Walsh stating in Thursday afternoon’s episode (19 November): “That’s another person cleverer than me on The Chase. I must have words with the producers.”

Darragh Ennis, a scientist, has been hired to take on members of the public more than three years after he participated on the other side of the podium.

The show has nicknamed him “The Menace”.

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, the 47 year old joins the show’s five other professionals: Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan, who joined the show in 2015.

When he appeared on The Chase in 2017, Ennis won an impressive £9,000 for his team.

He faced Sinha, who has since described him as “the best player” he's ever faced.

Ennis has admitted being rusty with popular culture, but is a history whizz.

Viewers expressed their shock at seeing a new face sat in the quizzer’s chair.

Many compared him to celebrity lookalikes Rufus Sewell and Ian McShane.
