Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Apprentice has returned with a fresh batch of suited and booted candidates who'll be battling it out in the boardroom for the next 14 weeks.
Unfortunately for Michelle Nizol, however, the experience has been shortlived as the property consultancy owner was deemed the first casualty by Lord Sugar.
The 35-year-old chose to be project manager of Team Nebula in a task which saw candidates searching for bargains among a host of antique collectibles.
Lord Sugar told the Oxfordshire-dweller: “I think there is a lot of stuff you are responsible for and for that reason you’re fired.”
“Thank you very much for the opportunity,” she replied composedly before Sugar ensured the safety of both Alana Spencer and Rebecca Jeffery.
He told them: “At the moment, you are floating as deadwood,"before sending them back to the house.
This year’s candidates include Jessica Cunningham, owner of an online fashion company, Essex boy Courtney Wood and IT consulting company owner Karthik Nagesan, who claims if he wanted to be like everyone else, he’d “have waxed [his] monobrow”.
Other challenges throughout the series will see candidates devise an advertising campaign for jeans, manufacture a range of sweets, design virtual reality games and host “late night opening” events at well-known attractions.
The Apprentice continues weekly at 9pm on BBC1.
