From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In a now deleted message, Manning seemed to have told her followers that the Netflix show "hurt me more than anything has in my life" and that "not one cast member cares about me".
“This show hurt me more than anything has in my life and if this is what I have to do to push what I stand for I will,” the post on Manning's account said. “I have to speak out before anything happens to me. F*** fame! This show hurt humans. You will never truly know but many were hurt!”
After Manning's former co-star Lori Petty (Lolly Whitehill) replied "Hey. I love you," Manning's apparent hacker responded with a pretty length comment.
"Thx bubs I know you do. And I love you. I am giving up everything to speak on how awful this career is and how awful we are treated. How I never knew if I was coming back yet I had seven optional seasons. How I didn’t even know how to plan my life, organise anything cause everything was a secret. Self serving bulls***, for whatever sick agenda.
It continued: "How some of the most dear characters were just not there anymore. My pals. F*** this show."
Manning played Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett in the show since 2013.
The seventh and final season – which also stars Taylor Schilling and Uzo Aduba – was released by Netflix on Friday.
