This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

All the sequins. All the glitz. Ready to return to TV screens once more when Strictly Come Dancing commences its 2017 season.

The very first contestant announced for this year was The Saturdays' Mollie King, followed by This Morning and Loose Women's Ruth Langsford, and Eastenders star Davood Ghadami.

Also joining are Hollyoaks' Gemma Atkinson, former chart-topper Reverend Richard Coles, Holby City star Joe McFadden, JLS member Aston Merrygold, presenter and TV chef Simon Rimmer, and comedian Susan Calman.

Judges Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel-Horwood, and Bruno Tonioli are all set to return. This year will also introduce new judge Shirley Ballas, who replaces Len Goodman as Head Judge, following his departure at the end of the 2016 series, which saw broadcaster Ore Oduba come out on top.

You can see the full list of contestants announced (so far) down below.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing will air on BBC One this autumn.
