From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. With Stranger Things 2 having been released just days before Halloween, partygoers are gearing up to dress as their favourite characters from the Netflix show.

However, there’s been some controversy over one costume that’s been advertised online. Titled the ‘Upside Down Honey Costume’, the outfit resembles that of Eleven, one of the show’s leading and most beloved characters.

The costume comes with a pink dress, stockings, blue jacket, and fake Waffle purse. The model used to advertise the outfit also has a blood dripping from her nose, something that happens to Eleven during the series.

“Evade your enemies in this Upside Down Honey costume featuring a powder pink babydoll dress with a ruffled bust, white buttons accents, a navy bomber jacket with long sleeves, white thigh high socks with striped tops, and a waffle purse, reads the advert, adding: “(Wig not included.)”

Many fans of the show have expressed outrage online over the costume, calling out how the outfit makes a child character ‘sexy’.

“THIS. CHARACTER. IS. A. CHILD. What is wrong with these people?,” wrote one Tweeter.

Yandy.com, who are selling the costume, has not commented on the situation. Stranger Things 2 is now available to stream on Netflix.
