From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Steven Seagal has called ongoing NFL protests 'disgusting' during an interview on UK television, although it's his new look that has really been capturing everyone's attention.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Seagal was asked about the ongoing controversial NFL protests in the United States.

“I believe in free speech,” he's said. “I believe that everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but I don’t agree that they should hold the United States of America or the world hostage by taking a venue where people are tuning in to watch a football game and imposing their political view.

“I think it’s outrageous. I think it’s a joke. It’s disgusting. I respect the American flag, and I myself have risked my life countless times for the American flag. I don’t understand or agree with this kind of behaviour. I think it’s an outrage.”

Seagal has managed to stay in the headlines over the last year thanks to a close relationship with Vladimir Putin, who awarded him with Russian citizenship in November 2016.

The Russian actor’s comments have left the Internet slightly bamboozled, although not as much as his latest aesthetic. Twitter has responded with bemusement at both:

In other Seagal news, the actor was blacklisted from Ukraine earlier this year after accepting a Russian citizenship.
