LA police department says ‘a lot of resources’ were used to get TV star down

Jackass star Steve-O duct-taped himself to a billboard in Hollywood in the middle of a pandemic.

The TV star and his assistants used several layers of tape for a DIY promotion of his new comedy special, Gnarly.

Steve-O – real name Stephen Glover – sent a selfie of himself from the scene to his Instagram page.

“I’m attached to a billboard right now,” he wrote, assuring his followers that “a team of real professionals rigged everything safely”.

He added: “There is zero chance of me falling, and it’s important to me that we not waste any valuable city resources on this. I’m happy to just hang out.”

Ninety minutes later, though, police and firefighters arrived to help get him down safely. He was taped to a billboard at the intersection of Cahuenga Boulevard and Yucca Street.

Brian Bixler, Los Angeles Police Dept Commanding Officer for Hollywood Patrol Division, told The Los Angeles Times that his team used “a lot of resources”.

“We’re trying to keep them minimum for the fire department. But definitely the fire department has a lot of rigs out here, and it takes a lot of resources away from what we should be doing – make people safe.”

Steve-O, 46, had told his followers that he was not sure if he was “committing any crimes” and that he hopes “nobody gets too upset”.

He also said he had paid for the billboard before taping himself to it.

The police filed no charges against the TV personality, who was taken down safely.

In 2015, Steve-O was jailed for a stunt in protest of SeaWorld’s treatment of killer whales.
