From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Colbert continued his coverage of the RNC on Wednesday night on his late show.
While he previously delivered biting commentary on specific moments of the convention, Colbert in this instalment declared that he had opted not to watch the RNC and that he felt all the better for it.
“I know by now watching the RNC I didn’t do my job tonight,” he admitted. “I just want to say: I feel great about it.”
Colbert continued: “Why should we pay attention to what they’re saying if none of what they’re saying tonight is about what’s happening in America right now?
“Why should we watch their reality show if it doesn’t reflect our reality? Why subject ourselves to their lies that stick to your soul like hot tar?”
Earlier in the segment, the host listed some of the issues currently at play in the US, including “a global pandemic that has killed 180,000 Americans”.
Referring to some of the rhetoric deployed at the RNC, Colbert continued: “I know fear is a motivator. They are desperate to turn out the fearful.
“But stoking fear is a dangerous game.”
The RNC wraps up on Thursday evening and will conclude with Donald Trump accepting the Republican nomination from the White House in Washington, DC.
