Colbert addressed Morgan’s reaction to Harry and Meghan’s interview as well as his exit from the programme on Tuesday’s instalment of his Late Show.
“After the interview hit the airwaves, fans of the royal family dumped a crumpet in their knickers, especially TV organism Piers Morgan,” Colbert quipped.
He played excerpts from Morgan’s various statements about the interview, which he made on Good Morning Britain. One of the clips shows Morgan stating: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle.”
“As much as Piers loves to dish out the criticism, he sure can’t take it,” Colbert added, before riffing on Morgan’s storming off the Good Morning Britain set after his co-star Alex Beresford condemned his comments.
“Piers didn’t just storm off the set in slow-motion twit snit,” Colbert quipped.
“He stormed off the whole damn show, because a few hours ago, his network announced ‘Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.’
“Congratulations. Tomorrow’s going to be a great morning, Britain.”
Ofcom has announced it is investigating Morgan’s comments about Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah after receiving more than 41,000 complaints.
