From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Sophia Lillis – budding star of both smash TV series Sharp Objects and the latest movie adaptation of Stephen King's It – has been cast in the lead role for new coming-of-age show I Am Not Okay With This, which will be produced by the same team behind Stranger Things.

According to reports, Lillis's character, Sydney, will be a teenage girl with mysterious, and potentially problematic, telekinetic powers.

The show is an adaptation of a graphic novel by Jonathan Entwistle, creator of another Netflix hit The End of the F***ing World, which has also been confirmed for a second series.

Consisting of eight half-hour episodes, I Am Not Okay With This will follow Sydney and her journey through the trials and tribulations of high school, as well as family issues and her budding sexuality. Not to mention the mysterious superpowers that are beginning to manifest within her.

Wyatt Oleff – another wonder kid from the cast of It, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – has also joined the show's cast as an "adorably awkward" non-jock.

I Am Not Okay With This will be released on Netflix in 2020.
