From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

UK politics, for instance, has become a treasure trove for jokes, especially now with Boris Johnson as foreign secretary, the Labour Party in turmoil, and Nigel Farage.
Meanwhile, in the US, the ensuing Presidential campaigns by Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump have meant Late Night hosts don’t have to dig too far to come up with hilarious routines.
The recent Republican convention was a particularly easy target to mock, mainly in thanks to Melania Trump and her ‘plagerised’ speech; Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and James Corden were all quick to ridicule the First Lady contender.
SNL had a slightly different take on the convention. One of their comedians, Michael Che, took to the conventions floor with a new game, Trumpemon Go, a spoof of the latest internet craze, Pokémon Go, that saw Che attempt to “catch the rarest creature of them all: minorities at the RNC."
The game even had its own tagline, playing off both Pokémon and Trumps: "Catch 'em all. Get 'em outta here."
Trump caused controversy at the convention by using the song ’We Will Be Champions’. The songs usage angered the band Queen who claimed it was an ‘unauthorised’ use of their song.
