Spike Lee is reportedly shopping his comedy series She’s Gotta Have It to rival outlets and streaming services after Netflix decided to cancel the show.

Netflix announced last night that the comedy, inspired by Lee’s 1986 debut film of the same name, is ending after two seasons, with its chief content officer Ted Sarandos declaring that Netflix will continue to work with Lee on future projects.

“Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we’re thrilled he brought the series She’s Gotta Have It to Netflix,” Sarandos said in a statement. “While this is our last season, we’re very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods.”

Hollywood Reporter has said that Lee is expected to take the series elsewhere, despite the show’s recent second season earning criticism from audiences and the actor John Boyega over a scene in which the show’s lead character, Nola Darling, was shown to lecture a black British actor about why black Brits should not portray black Americans. Boyega slammed the scene as “trash” on his Twitter account.
