From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Over the weekend, Donald Trump held a baffling rally in Florida, once again lambasting the media for reporting ‘fake news’.
The current President of the United States told followers about a terrorist attack that happened in Sweden, having seen it reported on Fox News the night before.
Ironically, there was no such attack in Sweden, leaving the country’s officials entirely confused and opening up Trump to further ridicule.
Of course, late night host Seth Meyers was quick to lambast the 70-year-old, saying: “The Swedish Chef is like ‘dude, even I don’t understand a word you’re saying’.”
The Swedish Chef, as any child would be able to tell you, is one of The Muppets who - when talking - is barely understandable, as demonstrated in this clip (turn on subtitles for added humour).
During the same 'A Closer Look' segment, Meyers joked about Michael Flynn, Robert Harward, and Trump’s infamous Tweets. Watch below.
Last week, Meyers tackled Trump’s “bats**t crazy” press conference, calling comments to American Urban Radio Networks reporter April Ryan “racist”.
