From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The cast of Seinfeld are reuniting for a fundraiser to turn Texas into a Democratic state.

Stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander are among those to take part in the reunion on Friday (23 October) alongside co-creator Larry David.

The event, titled “Fundraiser About Something”, will see the sitcom’s cast discuss their favourite episodes of Seinfeld. Profits made from tickets to the virtual event will go towards the mission to turn Texas blue.

“Texas is a battleground state, period,” Louis-Dreyfus, Alexander and David said in a joint statement about the fundraiser. “We knew that we had to reunite for something special and the movement on the ground for Texas Democrats up and down the ballot is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Texans are getting out to vote in droves and showing the world that Texas has never been a red state, it’s been a non-voting state.”

They added: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to host a ‘Fundraiser About Something’ for a terrific organisation like the Texas Democratic Party, who are building the movement necessary to turn Texas blue in 14 days.”

Louis-Dreyfus, who also plays a fictional vice president in Veep, took a series of swipes at Donald Trump when she appeared at the Democratic National Convention in August.

The US election takes place on 3 November. Joe Biden is currently 10 points ahead of Trump in the polls.
