Get ready to head back to Bayside High School: Saved by the Bell is getting a reboot.
NBCUniversal made the announcement on Tuesday, as it released more information about its upcoming new streaming service named Peacock.
Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley, who portrayed AC Slater and Jessie Spano on the NBC sitcom, will return on the reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel takes place as Zack Morris (originally played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar), now the governor of California, sends students from low-income areas to some of California’s best schools, including Bayside High where the original action was located.
Sources told the website that the reboot will see Lopez and Berkley play new roles as parents.
Saved by the Bell, which chronicled the lives of a group of high school students (and occasionally touched on serious topics such as drug use) ran from 1989 to 1993.
Dustin Diamond, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Lark Voorhies, Ed Alonzo, Dennis Haskins and Leanna Creel all formed part of the original cast.
After the news of the upcoming reboot was revealed, Lopez told Access Hollywood that he might bring back the iconic mullet haircut he sported on the show to mark the occasion.
NBC’s Peacock streaming platform will be unveiled in April 2020.
The Office and Parks and Recreation will be part of its catalogue among other legacy shows such as Downton Abbey and 30 Rock.
